Australia Bans Human Centipede Ii
Australia has become the second country to ban outright director Tom Six's The Human Centipede II . The Australian Classification Review Board, a government unit that is the counterpart to America's MPAA ratings board, ruled on Monday that the film may no longer be screened in the country because of its "gratuitous, exploitative, or offensive depictions of violence with a very high degree of impact and cruelty which has a high impact." The decision comes on the heels of a similar one by the Brtish Board of Film Classification, which said in its ruling, "the sequel presents graphic images of sexual violence, forced defecation, and mutilation, and the viewer is invited to witness events from the perspective of the protagonist." (About two minutes was later cut from the film, which satisfied the censors.) Hailing the ban was Family Voice Australia, which had organized a protest campaign against the movie. "On behalf of Australian families, we thank the Board for its unanimous agreement," said Ros Phillips, national research officer for the group. "Pornography based on human torture has no place on Australian screens."
