FBI Agent Elliot Ness takes it upon himself to bring down master criminal Al Capone. Due to rampant corruption all around he hand picks a small team to help him fight the badies and the system. De Palma's direction is never driven by story or acting, but by look. In The Untouchables he has major help in both departments, making this one of his most accessible and popular pictures.

BRIAN DE PALMA (Scarface, Carlito's Way) directs this Oscar winning piece of vintage Hollywood melodrama. Starring KEVIN COSTNER (Dances With Wolves, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) as idealistic lawman Eliot Ness and ROBERT DE NIRO (Raging Bull, Goodfellas) as crime lord Al Capone, the film is a thrilling drama about how one of America's most notorious criminals was eventually brought to justice.

Scripted by the acclaimed writer David Mamet (Hannibal, The

Edge) and with a superlative supporting cast including SEAN CONNERY (winning an Oscar for his portrayal of veteran law enforcer Jim Malone) and ANDY GARCIA, the modern version of the prohibition-era crime caper is an excellent example of good old-fashioned story telling. The authenticity and mood of the period is evoked by the cast and brilliantly captured by De Palma's accomplished cinematography and Ennio Morricone's brilliant score.

Scenes that are now firmly rooted amongst Hollywood's all-time classics include the finale, where Ness and his beleaguered team run-down the Capone gang at Chicago's central train station. The slow-motion shot of Ness desperately grasping for a child in its pram whilst shooting at the fleeing gangsters, perfectly embodies the films ability to capture and sustain the tension of a single moment to stunning affect.
