Kid Cudi - Erase Me Featuring Kanye West Single Review

Ohio-Born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi better known as Kid Cudi, achieved major attention with his debut album The Man on the Moon. Already having produced a sequel, The Man on the Moon II, which is set for release this November, Kid Cudi is proving that he is no one hit wonder.

The first single off his sophomore effort, Erase Me, is a re-collaboration with Kanye West; whose last album 808s & Heartbreak featured an appearance from Kid Cudi himself. The result is a heavy rap-rock track that sounds like a strange blend of Weezer and Jay Z - so think something along the lines of Gym Class Heroes. The song is perfect for driving down a Californian highway in the summer with the roof down. Kid Cudi adds to this by his reggae-esque vocals. Kid Cudi is able to very successfully combine the anthemic with the relaxed thus ensuring this song is bound to go down contrastingly well in both an open arena and a garden on a summer's day. On a side note, a definitive highlight of the single is Cudi's use of falsetto in the chorus, which is a quite charming and delightful touch.

The song does have slight problems however. Kanye's cameo seems a bit pointless and out of place, it's as if he's on the single for the sake of it. Also, the song fails to build to a climax and thus the quite abrupt end comes across surprising. Regardless of these faults, it is obvious that Kid Cudi is worth the listen to. Already having worked with artists such as Lady Gaga and David Guetta, and now building his own rapport, he certainly shouldn't be worried about being 'erased' off our list of those to look out for in the near future.
