From The Shards of Comets!
Less Magic, More Mechanics
Single Review

Across Britain, the musical winds are changing. Bands are tiring of three-minute pop songs about girls and discos and meeting girls at discos, they are pushing song lengths past the fifteen minute mark, and harbour a passionate disregard for linear musical structures and conventions. Each one with a name more ridiculous than the last, Explosions In The Sky, Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies, and now From The Shards of Comets! are leading the way in intense post-rock and superfluous punctuation.

FTSOC! are a Nottingham six-piece who have just released their first single
as a limited edition 7 inch, and from the opening tranquil piano arpeggios, you know you are in for a treat. Scattershot drums give way to spiralling guitars, resulting in a doomy and spine-tingling piece of post-rock.

Following the untimely demise of Hope of the States, fans would be well-advised to check out this promising band.
