Muse - Supermassive Black Hole Single Review

Supermassive Black Hole
Single Review
Muse have always had an amazing ability to sound so awe-inspiringly heavy. Don't, please, confuse heaviness with speed. Slayer I'm afraid aren't heavy, they're just fast. Muse have always been truly heavy, that wall-of sound heaviness delivered with a beautiful sheen.
This latest pre-album single then comes as an initial shock. It's a quirky, jerky affair, with the falsetto almost taking on a strange 70s quality. It has a strange air of electro-funk a la Goldfrapp, although delivered with guitars. At points it sounds similar to what the Stereophonics always strive to do but fail â mix that strutting 70s rock thing with true modern sensibilities.
An extremely interesting teaser for the album, Supermassive Black Hole is a skinny fit 70s leather jacket worn with ultra-contemporary fashion sense. It's a good look.
