Slims are a spanking new Manchester three-piece responsible for a riff-happy, Mudhoney-esque slab of muscular post-grunge insanity which is marred only by the fact that somebody saw fit to give Michael Bolton a handful of Czechoslovakian steroids and invite him to sing on it.

Seriously, this tune is an absolute master class in how to create furious alternative rock music … And then trash it by allowing an over-indulgent vocalist to emote so excessively that he makes Bruce Dickinson sound like Leonard Cohen. This dude should have his tongue removed, and fast.

However, like I say, the vibe, groove and riffs are second to none. Invoking the spirit of Green River, Rollins Band and early Nirvana, Slims do enough to justify your parting with a couple of quid, regardless of the singer’s spiteful show-boating. Buy it. Maybe that’ll cheer the miserable turkey up a bit. U-TUNC? He tunc.
