Republic of Loose - Hold Up! - Single Review Republic of Loose
Hold Up
(Big Cat)

‘Hold Up’ is the new single from Republic of Loose and is taken from their debut album ‘This is the Tomb of Juice’. Hailing from Dublin, this five piece band have created a from of funk that I’m very pleased with. Definite influences like Rick James, The Rolling Stones, The Ohio Players and Funkadelic have created a live band sound with potent funk, blues and even Michael Jackson style groove. The vocals on this

track are great. There's total character, gritty blues soul and mixed well with the backing vocals to create a lot of atmosphere and energy. The lyrics are amusing and honest and certainly fuelled by a need to express. Lyrics like ‘I don’t drink coffee, I don’t drink tea’ create a more down to earth feel and one could relate to them. There’s even rapping on ‘Rugged’ which is delivered well. The band plays sweet funk music with old r’n’b rhythms. There are keys to give it some flavour and great use of the guitar to create a dirty blues overtone.

Both songs ‘Hold Up’ and ‘Rugged’ has a unique stylethat is certainly Republic of Loose. They taken some good influences and createdtheir own blend. This single is strong, a lot of fun and most enjoyable. Be preparedto grabbed, chewed and moved by the Republic of Loose.
