The Definitive Electro/Hip Hop Collection

The Definitive Electro/Hip Hop Collection - Album Review The Definitive Electro/Hip Hop Collection

In the spirit of the current revival of electro I’m pleased that Universal have produced a compilation of tracks that truly defined many street cultures, such as break dancing, mixing, sampling and all the progression of music that came from it. There are some serious heavy weight artists on this compilation such as Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, Eric B & Rakim and even New Order who all seriously contributed to electro/hip hop music. There are must have singles for any collector or DJ like ‘Planet Rock’ by Afrika Bambaaataa, ‘It Takes Two’ by Rob Bass & EZ Rock and ‘South

Bronx’ by DJ Scott La Rock & KRS-One. There’s tunes to get out the vinyl and start body popping to, tracks to reminisce or just songs for you to melt into the atmospherics of synthesiser sounds.
You can see with this album that 80’s electro had a serious groove and definitive sound to it. A good place to start for those wanting some electro in their collection as theirs loads of good tunes. Class.
