Lizz Wright - Dreaming wide awake Album Review

Soulful, articulate and mature, Lizz Wright is one of the most original artists of the modern era. With her developing writing talents – 3 out of 12 tracks on the new album were written by Lizz – the gospel feel makes it the most original of the year!

Born in Georgia, this album makes you want to relax. It is just so mellow that you could listen to it for hours, similar music genre to Norah Jones; however the voice is quite diverse.
This album is something I’d listen to after a big night out. Just kick back and chill out to it, it’s amazing.

I love two tracks in particular – “Stop”, which was previously recorded by Madonna on her “music” album and “I’m confessin’”.

Both of these tracks are brilliant, so soulful and calm and quite jazz/R&B like.
“Stop” is beautiful and has the most talented lyrics I can think of. Despite it being a cover, Lizz Wright could certainly make this song her own with her gorgeous vocals adapting to any type of music genre.

“I’m confessin’” is too a soulful track however this one has the more R&B sound with attitude and a little kick to it.

Produced by the Verve music group, the album was recorded in full in the famous Woodstock studios in New York. Released on 14th June 2005, this gospel feel album has an almost Aretha Franklin style to it making it worthy than her debut album “Salt”.

Hoping for success throughout Europe, Lizz will be touring in Paris on 7th July at the L’European and in London on 7th August 2005 at the Queen Elisabeth Hall.
