Marching Band - Spark Large Album Review
Album review of Spark Large by Marching Band released through U&L Records.
Erik Sunbring and Jacob Lind are Marching Band. The two Swedish song writers hail from Linkoping. The duo say all they need to write music is 2 bikes, a computer, musical instruments borrowed from whoever will lend them and three mics.
Marching Band's sound is one that could quite happily fit onto a radio two show or US college radio show instead of your NME stereotypical band. They write music with lush instrumentation and neatly compacted into sweet songs.
Adam Lasus was the producer on Spark Large, he previously worked with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! And Yo La Tengo. Marching Band are somewhere between Coldplay and the unconventional instrumentation of Belle and Sebastian.
Spark Large definitely sounds like the kind of album that's full of smiles, there isn't a bad vibe travelling through the music, and is a lot better than many of the Swedish song writers around at the moment. It's a fantastic album, you couldn't ask for much more from a debut.
Album of the week.
