Sparta is the result of At The Drive-In breaking up, for anyone who knows any thing about ATD-I would know they broke up to form 2 different groups the guys with big hair formed Mars Volta and the "non hairy" members formed Sparta!

Jim Ward has taken on lead vocal as well as playing the guitar, Mat Miller on Bass, Paul Hinojos on guitar and Tony Hajjar on drums. Wiretap Scars is the bands first full length offering, Mars Volta is a different sound to ATDI whilst Sparta has suck to the same formula of traditional ATD-I records, Well as the saying goes if it aint broke don't fix it!

I spoke to Jim ward after a gig they played in Leeds on their last visit to the UK and he said he was still a little worried about his new roll of lead vocal and front man but he's pulled it off he shows a muti-vocal talents on a rather eclectic mix of sounds found on Wiretap Scars.

The album opens with their first single "Cut Your Ribbon" raw and gripping, many songs follow the routine of ambient intro breaking into full on in your face rock laced with a fine does of EMO. This is the exception on Echodyne Harmonic this features a piano and is a lot more mellow & alternative song. Assemble the Empire is the final track and brings us straight back to that rock heart Sparta long to portray in there music.

This record has a lot of diversity and we have to hand it to the El Paso boys, Wiretap Scars is much of an improvement than most of the pink bubble gum rock that get exported from America.
