New Birth Carlos Nino, the mastermind behind the Dwight Trible project and musical partner Fabian Ammon, have teamed together to create Ammoncontact. Being released on Ninja Tune records you can imagine the vibe that ‘New Birth’ has and it does fit into the Ninja Tune formula which is a good thing in my books.

The press release describe Ammoncontact as “heavy, funky, groove-based minimalism with a dash of cosmic Black Power politics, a love of jazz and enough bass to flatten planets’ which is a pretty good description to me. ‘Minimalism’ is the main word here as the simplicity of the sounds on ‘New Birth’ create a lot of space so none of the tracks over power you. It makes it so easy to listen to and you won’t get bored playing it over and over again due to excellent arrangements and progressive use of classic cut-em-up, sample-chop constructions. It is taking hip hop beat structures forward and allowing the listener peace of mind to think. It captures that Kruder & Dorfmeister heart, David Holmes cool, Mr Scruff progression and Money Marks simplicity. I loved listening to this mini album. It’s got all the right influences and progressive soul to keep you listening. I like albums that are in tune with the times and allow you the space to be introspective as well as uplifted. Although it is essentially a musical set of songs there does feature Lil Sci spitting some lyrics on ‘My People’ that fit well. I look forward to hearing more tunes from these master craftsmen.
