Van Dyke's Nose Problem

American actor Dick Van Dyke was taken aback when he learned his big nose was a problem during production on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 1968.

The 78-year-old star was preparing to play CARACTACUS POTTS for the first time when he overheard Ken Hughes discussing the size of his nose with a make-up artist.

He recalls, "The first day I was in make-up, the director called the make-up man over and said, 'What about the hooter?' He didn't realise that I could hear him.

"The make-up man said, 'I'm not a plastic surgeon.' So I didn't start the movie on a high."
