Boyband Blue Representing U.k. At 2011 Eurovision
Reformed British boyband Blue will represent the U.K. at this year's (11) Eurovision Song Contest.
The One Love stars split in 2004 to pursue solo careers, but now Antony Costa, Duncan James, Simon Webbe and Lee Ryan have reunited and accepted an invitation by bosses at the BBC, which broadcasts the contest live, to enter the European competition on Britain's behalf.
The group will perform I Can, a track specially written for the event by James and Ryan, on 14 May (11) when the Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The decision has already come under attack by some critics, with Blue's former manager Daniel Glatman blasting the move as "reckless insanity" as previous U.K. entrants have experienced ridicule in the press after failing to score highly in the competition.
Glatman said, "They will have to win. Anything less and their reputation would be in tatters."
But the bandmates have defended their Eurovision decision, reports the BBC.
James says, "There's been a lot of negativity but all we ask is, please hold off until you hear the song."
Singer Webbe adds, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Obviously we don't agree with him (Glatman). We believe this is going to be the best springboard for us to come back on...
"It was a no-brainer for us. This song for us we feel is Blue - this would have been our first single whether it was for Eurovision or not."
